The Tree

by Holli Gibbs

Hollow tree, but

O was the bark blameless!

Laid out evenly,

Lined up perfectly,

In an unbelievable smoothness.

But the leaves didn’t grow and

Every time the wind would start,

The tree would shiver, knowing

How barren its heart. Only

God could fill the shrub, making

Its true fruits come to be:

Blooming leaves and

Budding berries on a

Satiated tree.
