“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17
Our minds misguided by our sin,
We could not know the truth,
And fettered by the thoughts of man
We stumbled from our youth.
The hope of setting bound hearts free
With eyesight cursed and blurred,
Was never in our fallen minds,
But only in His Word.
“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:1-7
We sinned against the Holy One
And could not make it right,
Dressed up in all our goodness,
Yet filthy in His sight.
The hope of restoration
For our fallen, broken race
Was never in our righteousness,
But only in His grace.
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
The Son of God set down His crown
And humbly stepped to earth
To live out perfect righteousness
And die beneath our curse.
God’s wrath could not be satisfied
Without His sacrifice,
Not in penance, tithes, or brilliant works,
But only in the Christ.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
The living Christ holds forth the gift,
The pardon for our sin,
To take of freely from His hand
And be washed clean within.
So we may lay our burden down
And draw this sweet relief,
Not for a price that we can pay,
But only in belief.
Soli Deo Gloria
“To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood–and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father–to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 1:5b-6
We glory in the cross of Christ,
Redeemed and justified.
We come unto the throne of God
And put to death our pride.
The credit for our purchased place
We dare not ever claim.
The praise could never be for us,
But only for His name.
